Bio

Michael Addicott, DJ ADD1 (a.k.a. Addi), began his
musical career learning the piano, at the age of 7, in
Bellingham, Washington. While participating
in the his middle school's Choir and Jazz band programs,
he stumbled across some DJ equipment including a Roland
synthesizer (Juno 106). Just months later Michael was DJing
the school dances.Through High School Addi played in several
bands and continued his involvement with School and Church Choirs.
During his last two years of High School Addi composed original
material for the Drama Department, Jazz Choir, and
Solo performances.

In the Fall of 1988 Michael came to
California to attend college at the University of
California at Santa Barbara. There he declared Music
Composition as his major and was accepted into The
College of Creative Studies. During his years studying
music, Michael continued to develop and refine his
skills as a pianist, vocalist and composer. While
attending college, they only job Michael enjoyed was
playing the piano in a restaurant lounge which was not
paying the bills. He decided to invest in a sound system
and some studio gear, and went to work DJ'ing just about
anywhere he could, spinning Hip Hop, Rock and all kinds
of party tracks.

After completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Michael's
attention to DJ'ing became more focused. He worked on
developing his mixing skills and made frequent trips
to the SF Bay Area to check out the music scene. "I
remember going to Mushroom Jazz, Informal Nation, Up &
Down Club, 278 11th Street and a lot of other places I
can't remember, but no matter where it was, I was
amazed at how good the music sounded...the sound
systems, the deep downtempo beats, Dancehall and Hip
Hip mashed together, the funky jazz infused House.
and the DJ's were so good, so beyond anything I could
do at the time...and I knew right away - that was what
I wanted to do."

Shortly after moving to the Bay Area in 1995 ADD1 got
his first residency. Friend and aspiring MC, UC Buu,
invited him to be a resident DJ at his weekly Hip Hop
and Dancehall Reggae party 'Third World'. Third World
ran at Blakes in Berkeley for nearly five years.
"Throughout the Third World run at Blake's we would
have 3 DJ's a night - trading half hour sets
all night. We were all partners so by midnight the
energy was sky high." 1995 was also the
year that the NBA's Golden State Warriors hired
Michael to be their arena DJ and sound mixer. This
would be just the beginning of Michael's work with Bay
Area professional sports teams.

The Up and Down Club in San Francisco was ADD1's
second DJ residency, where he spun Friday and Saturday nights
from 1997 until the club changed owners in 2001. It
was at the Up and Down where Andy Wasserman, a
successful San Francisco promoter, took notice of ADD1
and brought him in to play at 'Sugarshak', at 278 11th street.
DJ Delon invited Michael to be a fellow resident at his weekly
Thursday night party called 'Beatdown'. This
event featured underground music within the genres of,
Downtempo, Drum & Bass, House, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and
Funk - just about everything. "Playing at 'Beatdown'
was a great experience, most of the underground music
I was playing in the late nineties was at house
parties and in the comfort of my home...until DJ Delon
put me on at Jupiter."

With a few residencies under his belt,
ADD1 continued to grow as a DJ, appearing at
venues through out San Francisco and the Bay Area.
ADD1 has since developed a nice little niche in Bay
area DJ scene, as well as a decade long tenure with
the with the Golden State Warriors and a couple seasons
with the Oakland Athletics. Michael was hired by the
San Francisco Giants to be their ballpark
DJ and sound mixer in 2002. ADD1 is currently in his third
season with the Giants, and will be gin his eleventh season
with the Warriors in October of 2005.

Currently, you can find DJ ADD1 in residence at
Remedy(@Ruby Sky) and Suite 181.
He looks forward to furthering his musical career
producing original music and remixes in his personal
studio.
